The Bengaluru Metro Commuters Association (BMCA) has urged the state government to introduce free metro passes for students. They believe it could promote educational access, public transport usage and safer commuting. Keep reading to know more about this in detail.
BMCA Wants Free Metro Travel Passes For Students On Bengaluru Metro
According to The New Indian Express, Karnataka has recently introduced free bus passes for students across the state. The move was welcomed by the Bengaluru Metro Commuters Association (BMCA), but it urged the government to extend this facility to the metro as well. According to the association, free passes on Namma Metro can promote educational access and public transport usage. Plus, metros are considered a safe mode of transport for students.
BMCA believes that transportation costs should not become a barrier to education. Moreover, free metro travel would make it easier for students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to access schools, colleges, coaching institutes and libraries across Bengaluru without putting additional financial burden on their families.

Free Metro Access Could Reduce Traffic & Pollution
BMCA also said that free metro access in Bengaluru would encourage the use of public transport in the city, especially among young people. This initiative, if it becomes a reality, could reduce long-term dependence on private vehicles such as cars and two-wheelers.
Moreover, this move may help reduce pollution, cut traffic on the roads and contribute significantly to a sustainable urban transport system. The New Indian Express also reported that riding the metro would help create a seamless public transport experience for students. This could help thousands of students commute more efficiently while saving both time and money.
