Cabinet Approves Ahmedabad Metro Extension
The Cabinet has given the green light to Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase 2(A), which will extend the network from Koteshwar Road to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. According to The Times of India, the 6.032-km metro extension will enhance links between key residential, commercial, and transportation hubs.
The project will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹2,169 crore and will seamlessly integrate with the existing Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro corridor, further strengthening the region’s public transport infrastructure. Here’s All You Need To Know About This
The 6.032-km Ahmedabad metro extension will run from Koteshwar Road to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The authorities have planned five stations on this corridor—Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River, Sardar Nagar, and Airport.
While the first four stations will be built along the elevated section, the airport station will be constructed underground, reflecting the engineering complexity involved in integrating air travel with the city’s metro network. The expansion is also expected to support infrastructure development ahead of major international sporting events, including the World Police and Fire Games 2029 and the Commonwealth Games 2030.
