Oman: Muscat Metro To Run 55 Km Including & 42 Stations, Here’s All About The Project

France and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding on June 29th, Monday. This is for cooperation on the development of the proposed Muscat Metro. As it happens, it marks an important step towards public transport, which is said to be an important project, aiming to modernise urban mobility in Oman.

Oman & France Sign MoU For Muscat Metro

Covering logistics, sports, and Muscat Metro, the deal between Oman and France was signed. It forms a part of the package of 12 agreements. The Muscat Metro has been designed in such a way that it creates a modern mass-transit network. With the aim of reducing congestion and promoting a sustainable mode of transport. It is also going to improve connectivity between some of the major residential, commercial, and business districts in the capital.

First Line Of Muscat Metro To Run About 55 Km

It should be noted that the first metro line will run about 55 km. This will be from Sultan Haitham City to Ruwi, and will include 42 stations. Not only this, but this route will also have seven major interchanges. It should be noted that the metro will run through Muscat International Airport, Ghala and Al Khuwair. As it happens, preliminary studies for the project had begun back in 2023. And now the transport minister said that the details would be announced once the preparatory work has been completed.

Through this agreement with France, it is expected that cooperation in urban transport, infrastructure, development and logistics will be strengthened.

Coming back to the signing, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic graced the signing of 12 agreements. This is a part of their effort to boost economic cooperation. It’s worth mentioning that the opening date of the metro has not yet been announced.
