Oman To Introduce Mid-Day Work Ban From June

Oman will be introducing a midday work ban from the beginning of June until August. During the period, as revealed in a report of the Gulf News, outdoor work will be prohibited in exposed areas between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM. In fact, authorities are also launching nationwide inspections. This includes visits to construction sites and open work areas so that there is compliance during peak afternoon heat.

If a company is found violating this rule, they will be liable to face a fine ranging from OMR500 to OMR1,000. There will also be additional administrative measures. The Ministry of Labour has warned companies of this strict penalty if they are found violating the annual midday work. The authorities will be stepping up inspections so that there is a reduced heat-related risk during the months.

Essential Services Excluded Subject To Prior Approval

It should be noted that essential services, such as airport operations, sports activities, and emergency utilities, may be exempt. However, they are subject to prior approval and strict safety measures. The safety measures include shaded rest areas, drinking water, and workforce rotation. As it happens, the ministry has also said the campaign aims to raise awareness of heat stress risk. So, the public has been urged to report violations through the official channels.

For those who are not aware, GCC countries often introduce a mid-day work ban during the summer season. This is during the peak summer season, when it becomes unbearably hot, and to avoid heat-related risks, these measures are introduced. It’s often introduced during midday when there’s peak heat.
