Dubai To Roll Out 735 Electric Buses In 2026, Moving Towards Zero-Emission Mobility System

Dubai recently released its plans to introduce 735 electric buses in 2026. It is a part of the emirate’s drive towards a zero-emission mobility system by the mid-century. As it steps up its transition towards public transport, here’s what you need to know about this green development.

Dubai RTA To Introduce 735 Electric Buses In 2026

As revealed by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, it is all set to introduce the new fleet. It is going to be delivered progressively. Did you know it marks the largest rollout of its kind? Well, this would significantly expand the electric public transport capacity in the city. Currently, Dubai operates 40 electric buses in its network. This is alongside a wider strategy, which also includes hydrogen-powered vehicles. All of these aligned with the goal of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. Not to mention, it also meets the UAE’s national target of achieving climate neutrality.

Charging Infrastructure Also Complete

With the aim of supporting the expansion, the charging infrastructure has also been completed. Yes, this has been done across five major operational indicators. They’ve been equipped with 32 capacity chargers, and these are rated at 360 kilowatts. They are located in the areas of Al Quoz, Al Ruwayyah, Business Bay, Lehbab, and Jebel Ali. As it happens, it strengthens the trades and also ensures operational continuity with the deployment scaling up for electric buses.

Not only this, but there are also performance assessments that are being conducted. This is being done by using the technical and operational indicators. And these include – battery range, energy consumption, charging time, and overall efficiency. These are all alongside factors, such as emission reduction and noise levels.

The Satisfaction Levels Also Show Strong Performance

It should be noted that initial results have also shown strong performance. This is particularly in short and medium urban routes. The satisfaction levels have also increase 95% among both drivers and passengers.

It should be known that this expansion is a part of a long-term strategy, which aims to build a sustainable and environmentally-friendly transport system. This can be done through the adoption of advanced operational solutions, which enhance efficiency and reduce emissions. With the development of charging infrastructure at key sites, it is central towards ensuring the reliability and capability of the fleet. It supports the gradual integration of electric buses across the network.

With the use of the electric buses, over 59,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in 2025 were avoided. This also supported a broad target to cut emissions by 30% by 2030.
