GCC Updates

1. Over 8,60,000 Hajj Pilgrims Arrive in Saudi Arabia

As of May 14th, over 860,000 Hajj pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia. As a result, a majority of 820,000 arrived by air. This included 2,40,000, who came through the Makkah Route Initiative. About 35,000 reached through the land border, and 4,000 arrived by sea, as mentioned by the Saudi Gazette.

2. Ajman Announces Official Holiday For Government Offices

The Ajman Government Human Resources Department recently announced the official holiday schedule. Yes, as revealed by the Gulf News, this is for Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha. Coming to the holiday, it begins on May 25th and will continue until May 29th.

3. Oman Hajj Mission Arrive In Jeddah

Oman Hajj Mission announced that they departed for 1447 AH from the country. This mission was headed by Ahmed Saleh Al Rashidi, who is the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Members of the mission were seen off at the Muscat International Airport, and they arrived in Jeddah to support Omani pilgrims.

4. Sharjah World Heritage Office Launched

The Sharjah Archaeology Authority recently launched the Sharjah World Heritage Office. This would help strengthen the management of World Heritage Sites in the emirate. This would also help in coordinating the protection of listed, nominated, and potential sites.

5. Zayed National Museum To Host Accessibility Conference 2026


Zayed National Museum recently announced that it would be hosting the Accessibility Conference 2026 from November 3rd to 5th. This is under the theme of ‘From Barriers to Belonging – Accessibility in Museum Practices’. The global call for papers remains open to submission until June 30th, 2026.
