As the sun went down on Tuesday, thousands of workers and struggling families across Sharjah received iftar meals through a large charity drive organised for the Day of Arafah. The initiative came from Sharjah Charity International, which said around 15,000 Iftar meals were distributed across different parts of the emirate.

For many workers finishing long shifts outdoors, the timing mattered just as much as the food itself. Volunteers and field teams were stationed in several areas to hand out meals before iftar time began.
The campaign was part of the charity’s activities during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, which are considered among the most important days in the Islamic calendar.

Workers And Families Were The Main Focus
According to the organisation, the meals were mainly aimed at labourers and families dealing with financial difficulties.
Abdullah Sultan Bin Khadim, Executive Director of the association, said the idea behind the campaign was not just about handing out food quickly. The team wanted people to feel respected and cared for while receiving support.
That said, organising thousands of meals in different locations is never simple. The charity said teams worked carefully to avoid overcrowding and to make sure distributions stayed organised and calm.
Some volunteers reportedly started preparations hours before sunset. Meals were packed, sorted and moved across various locations in Sharjah before people arrived to collect them.
More Than Just A One-Day Initiative
The Day of Arafah meal campaign is only one part of a much larger seasonal effort happening this month.
Also included in the charity’s Dhul Hijjah projects are Hajj support programmes, medical treatment assistance and financial aid for families facing hardship. The organisation is also arranging Eid clothing drives and sacrificial meat distributions ahead of Eid Al Adha.
For many people, these campaigns become especially important during religious seasons when expenses tend to rise. Food, travel and family commitments can add pressure on households already trying to manage carefully.
The association said it is continuing both local and international humanitarian projects as well, including water initiatives, healthcare support and construction-related work.

Volunteers Played A Big Role On The Ground
A large number of volunteers and staff members helped oversee the distributions across the emirate.
Some managed traffic and queues, while others focused on packing and handing over meals respectfully. The charity said teams coordinated closely to make sure recipients could collect food without confusion or delays.
