Sharjah’s best-kept secret is finally stepping into the limelight. Sir Bu Nair Island, the quiet, horseshoe-shaped beauty sitting far off the mainland, is throwing its doors open to visitors for the very first time. And yes, the sea trip to get there is completely free. That alone is reason enough to get people talking.
Sharjah’s Sir Bu Nair Island Now Open For Visitors
The opening announcement has come in light of the conclusion of the Sir Bu Nair Festival on 25 October. According to a report by Gulf News, the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority has officially confirmed the island’s public opening. Tucked away 112 kilometres off Sharjah’s coast, the island has been quietly protected for years. Now, it’s opening up, gently, not chaotically, to those curious enough to see what lies beyond the city’s rush.
Where Nature Meets A Luxury Escape

The island appears to be smaller when you hear it’s just 4km,s but we assure you it’s packed with sea turtles, Coral fish and more. You will even spot Seabirds glide above. Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), plans on transforming Sir Bu Nair into a luxury destination without destroying its traditional charm..
The Horseshoe shape of the island makes it instantly identifiable from above. But beneath those waters lies a thriving underwater metropolis inclusive of 76 species of coral fish, 40 kinds of coral reefs, and even the elusive redcoat fish.
A Living Refuge for Wildlife
Ever spotted Hawksbill and green sea turtles in the UAE? From March to June, these creatures return to these shores to nest on Sharjah Island. Seabirds, think sooty gulls and terns, swoop overhead, while gazelles, hedgehogs and reptiles call the land their home.

Limited Spots, No Second Chances
Here’s the catch: not everyone gets to go. The authority has warned that spots are limited, and early registration is essential. So if you’re tempted to shrug it off and decide “maybe later,” well… later might be too late. Sir Bu Nair isn’t just opening its doors. It’s extending an invitation. A whisper from nature saying, “come see what you’ve been missing.”
