Riyadh’s staycation scene is about to get a very scenic addition. Oberoi Hotels & Resorts has revealed the first look at The Oberoi Sukoonvilas, Wadi Safar, an intimate luxury resort set to open in the first quarter of 2027.
The First Hotel At Wadi Safar
The resort will be the first hotel to open in Wadi Safar, a new destination around 30 minutes from Riyadh and close to At-Turaif in Diriyah. Its desert valleys and dramatic escarpments make for a striking weekend drive.
What The Resort Looks Like
The Oberoi Sukoonvilas will sit atop a 70-metre escarpment and spread across more than 37 acres. Despite that size, it keeps things intimate, with just 60 standalone villas and 10 branded residences. The design draws on Najdi architecture, with Aedas behind the architecture and Blink handling the interiors. Expect shaded courtyards, water features and landscaped grounds, rather than one large hotel building.
Where You Will Eat
Yatra is a contemporary Indian restaurant from chef Rohit Ghai, who has previously led a Michelin-starred restaurant. Linnet will handle pastries and café dining, led by London pastry chef Lily Vanilli, while Beyla will serve international dishes. There will also be casual poolside dining overlooking the escarpment.
The 65-Metre Infinity Pool
The centrepiece is a 65-metre infinity pool overlooking Wadi Safar, designed for quiet reflection. Wellness is a focus too, with ASMI by Oberoi offering wellness journeys, hammams, indoor wellness pools and fitness facilities. Saudi and Indian influences run through the architecture, food and hospitality.
What Else Is Coming To Wadi Safar
The resort is only the beginning. The wider destination is being developed around heritage, sport, wellbeing, nature and luxury hospitality, all within its desert landscape. As the first hotel to open there, The Oberoi Sukoonvilas will give travellers their first proper taste of what Wadi Safar is set to become.

What To Know Before You Plan
The resort is due to open in Q1 2027, but the announcement did not include rates or booking details. For now, this is a first glimpse rather than a booking guide, so keep an eye out for official updates from Oberoi.
For anyone planning a Saudi getaway next year, it is worth adding to the wish list. A villa stay on an escarpment, a chef with Michelin-starred experience and that pool make a strong case for a first visit to Wadi Safar.
