The ministry has closed 31 pet shops, bird markets, livestock outlets and plant nurseries across the UAE during the first half of the year. This wasn’t a one-off sweep either; it’s the result of 30 joint inspection campaigns carried out with local authorities, covering a total of 269 establishments involved in the sale of pets, birds, livestock and plants.

Of those 269 businesses inspected, 104 have been referred to the relevant authorities and committees for legal action. Another 45 establishments received formal warnings and were told to address their violations, while 16 had their operations suspended until they complied with legal requirements.
The ministry also flagged businesses operating without completing the required licensing procedures, working alongside economic development departments to give owners a grace period to regularise their status before enforcement kicked in properly.
