The UAE’s Ministry of Education recently announced that regular in-person classes will resume across all nurseries, kindergartens, public and private schools. It should be noted that this decision ends days of confusion and speculation that surrounded the topic of how long-distance learning would continue. Setting a clear path for schools as they navigate the uncertainties of the current times, here’s everything that parents would want to know.

Regular In-Person Classes To Resume In UAE

As revealed by the ministry, regular classes on campus will resume for all nurseries, kindergartens, public, and private schools in the UAE on April 20th, which is Monday. For private early childhood centres in Dubai, they have already begun returning to on-site learning from April 16th. As it happens, priorities are being given to nurseries while others are still continuing to offer home-based childcare under the approved rule.

What’s The Notification For Universities?

However, not just schools, but universities in the UAE will also be resuming in-person learning from April 20th, 2026. Yes, this was mentioned by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which announced that all the public and private higher education institutions will be resuming in-person learning.

What About Exams?

Now, the next question that arises is what about the final exams? Well, several major awarding bodies have already cancelled their external exams in the UAE for 2026. These include the CBSE and ISC, International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, Pearson Edexcel, Cambridge International, and Oxford AQA. Basically, qualifications, which include IGCSC and A Levels, will not have external exams in the UAE for this year.

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that private schools have the flexibility to adopt a hybrid rotational body. This is, however, subject to approved regulation and oversight by the local education authorities. The ministry has even clarified that the schools, which use this model, will have to organise staff deployment carefully. The same teachers cannot be assigned to deliver both in-person and remote lessons at the same time.

However, at this point, it’s worth mentioning that this is still a developing story. So, stay tuned with this space for more details that may come soon.
