There are many scammers out there who are out to steal your money. And the latest financial fraud that has been gaining momentum is card skimming. This is a sort of fraud, wherein the scammer gets hold of the card in fraudulent ways. Here’s all you need to know about this kind of scam and how you can save yourself from this

What Is Card Skimming?

Card skimming is a kind of scam that involves a traditional skimmer, as mentioned in a report by Khaleej Times. This is a device which physically goes into the card machine, either at a store or even an ATM. As a result, it alters the machine in such a way that it places a hidden camera, which catches sensitive information. Now, digital skimming is also on the rise. As a result, it is carried over the internet, which makes it even more difficult to detect.

A growing problem, digital skimming is on the rise as digital payments are being made across different kinds of purchases. This is a big problem as cyber criminals don’t need to use stolen cards right away. They can just sit on them for weeks and months, making small payments, which would make it difficult to detect. There are even more purchase fraud authorised payments that victims into making the payments.

How To Avoid Such Scams?

So, the next question arises: how can one steer clear of such scams? A way to ensure that you have financial safety is by taking note of the small amounts that are being withdrawn. If one takes a look at the previous transactions, they will be able to notice the small amounts that are being withdrawn before it’s too late. Another foolproof method is to immediately freeze the card. If your card has been compromised, it is always best to freeze the card before any transaction can be made. Another option is to directly call your bank so that you can cancel any kind of suspicious transaction.

Traditional Skimming Method Still In Use

But how can one award such frauds? Well, you must always be on the lookout when you’re using your cards. Skimmers are placed on top of legitimate terminals that are still in use, and they are getting even more difficult to spot. A great way to spot one is by trying to jiggle the terminal or even pressing on the keypad. If the keypad feels a little bulky or feels off on touch, it’s probably compromised.

So, make sure to follow all the precautions, and to always be on the lookout if you also wish to avoid such kind of scams.
