By now, you already know Shukr is a new bakery which just whips out one single thing. Yes, it serves Filipino ensaymadas, which cost AED18. This is basically a soft and pillowy bun that is topped with oodles of cheese, making it a delightful treat.
What Is Ensaymadas?
For those who are not aware, Ensaymadas is basically a soft and sweet butter pastry. It comes from the Philippines and is topped with butter, sugar and grated cheese. With Spanish roots, the pastry originally comes from Mallorca, Spain, called Ensaïmada. When Spanish colonisers brought this recipe to the Philippines, local bakers changed the original pork lard to rich butter-based brioche dough. People in the Philippines generally eat it as an afternoon snack or as a morning treat. And it pairs perfectly with a hot cup of coffee or even hot chocolate.

Cheese-Topped Coffee As Pairing
But at Shukr, you don’t need to go looking for the perfect drink, as they have launched a great pairing themselves! They have launched something called Coffee Milk Cheese, which goes really well with this nibble. As you can already gather from the name, they literally serve cheese foam on top of their coffee, which makes it absolutely quirky and tempting.
