Dubai is not looking at the future; it builds it. Uber is currently providing Uber Air, which runs on Joby Aviation, as an indication of what Dubai customers can expect from all-electric air taxis. It is bookable within the Uber app. The project operates in partnership with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, which is commonly referred to as the RTA.
Soon, You Will Be Able To Order An Air Taxi On Uber In Dubai
According to Gulf News, Joby anticipates starting to ferry its first Dubai passengers later this year. Providing it is on time, Dubai will be among the first cities where you can tap your phone and fly over traffic.
The Process Of Reserving An Uber Air Taxi Will Be Like
In the Uber app, ‘go to the here to?’ bar, enter your location, and in case your ride is eligible, the Uber Air, powered by Joby, should be shown as an alternative. The application takes care of the trip. It will have an Uber Black pick you up at the vertiport, and the final leg will be by another car. None of that juggling of bookings, none of the confusion, one smooth passage.
The Experience Of The Air Taxi Ride
The aeroplane that Joby uses can carry 4 passengers. Each seat is equipped with large windows, with far-reaching views of the city skyline, coastline shots, and a new perspective of the Sheikh Zayed Road traffic below. It is not autonomous yet, but will be flown by a certified commercial pilot. The goal is to have a comfortable, non-dramatic flight.

All About Speed, Range And Safety
The plane has six tilting propellers. A helicopter-like ascent to the sky is then followed by the tilt forward to a plane-like flight. Top speed? Up to 200 miles per hour. Ranges of approximately 100 miles on one charge–sufficient for city distances. The engineers had introduced many backup systems to enhance safety, and the designers had tried to ensure that the sound profile remained low and fitted within the city’s noise as opposed to dominating the city’s noise.
The Federal Aviation Authority must be fully certified before it can begin carrying out commercial flights in the United States. Joby has already covered over 50,000 miles in its fleet and is in the last certification phase. Joby and Uber have been partnering since 2019, and in 2021, Joby purchased Uber Elevate, which is part of the current strategy of urban air mobility.
