According to the updated guidelines, customers who are flying with Emirates can still carry one power bank on board. However, they must meet specific conditions, which have been listed below. These are in line with the new regulations by Emirates and are as follows:

  • Customers are allowed to carry one power bank; however, it must be under 100 watt-hours.
  • This power bank cannot be used to charge any personal device onboard.
  • Power banks cannot be charged with the help of an aircraft power supply.
  • Power banks that are accepted must have capacity rating information available.
  • These power banks cannot be placed in the overhead storage bin in the aircraft and should be placed in the seat pocket or under the seat, which is in front of the passenger
  • Power banks cannot be carried in the checked luggage, which is obviously an existing rule

Why This Change In Rule?

A big question that arises is why Emirates made such changes to its guidelines? Well, this is being taken to mitigate the risk related to power banks onboard. With the growth in customers who are using power banks, it has increased the number of lithium battery-related incidents as well. So to combat the issues and to mitigate any risk, the rules have been updated. After all, the airline focuses on safety as one of its core values and is committed towards maintaining and improving the same.

Since all power banks are subject to this rule, you might want to keep this in mind when travelling with the airline next.
