flamingo season kuwait

It’s finally that time of the year, once again, when you can watch pretty flamingos flocking to the coasts of Kuwait. The breathtaking birds have once again taken over the coasts in large numbers. And while they can be found all year round in Kuwait, they particularly become more common when the weathers get milder. With flamingo season usually between November and March, here’s all you need to know about the season and where you can watch these beautiful birds.

Flamingo Season Is Now Underway In Kuwait

Living in a group called flamboyance, the birds travel and live together. And now they have landed in Kuwait coast as the weather gets mild. As revealed in a report of the Kuwait Times, huge flocks of birds are often seen in Sulaibikhat and Jahra bays. With their being as many as 3,000 birds recorded in some years, some have also been recorded in the inland pools of Jahra.

An Event To Watch The Migratory Birds

This year, the team of the Kuwait Environmental Lens volunteers even organised an event at the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. With the aim of observing and tracking migrating flamingos along the coast of Sulaibikhat, the event was a part of the science month. With many activities designed to spark curiosity, the programmes just made science fun for people of all ages.

As it happens, over 400 bird species, including flamingos, have been recorded in Kuwait. So, to safeguard them, they have established natural reserves and even signed international agreements. We are talking about the Ramsar Convention, which safeguards the wetlands that are essential for migratory species.
