The Middle East is currently a hotbed of updates at the moment and due to the escalating tensions, there are many new details that are surfacing that are quite difficult to keep track of. However, before we dive into these details, it is important to remember to stay calm and well-informed during these difficult circumstances. Not to mention, one must only rely on the government and official sources for any news and updates. So, in the last couple of hours, here’s a bunch of updates from across the GCC region, including Kuwait, Bahrain & UAE that warrant your attention.

1. Drone Strikes Kuwait Airport

A drone struck Kuwait International Airport, and several videos of the strike have now gone viral. The strike happened on Saturday, February 28th, as mentioned by the Civil Aviation Authority, which was quoted by the Gulf News. The report also mentioned how minor injuries were caused to some employees, and there has also been limited material damage to the passenger terminal.

2. Qatar Suspends In-Person Schooling

Shifting to distance learning, Qatar has officially announced that in-person education in schools and universities has been suspended for the time being. The shift to distance learning is until further notice.

3. UAE Has Warned Against Sharing Rumours

The UAE Cyber Security Council has asked people to refrain from sharing rumours or any unconfirmed information. Not to mention, the cybersecurity system is continuing to fully operate 24*7.

4. Airports Across the UAE Suspend Flights

Not just Dubai, but Abu Dhabi and Sharjah airports have also suspended flights until further notice. Yes, it is a part of a precautionary measure, and passengers have been advised not to head to the airport. Abu Dhabi Airport has also advised passengers of these flight disruptions, and they have asked them not to travel to the airport. So, the passengers who were scheduled to travel today have been urged to check with their airlines.

5. Etihad Airways, flydubai, Emirates & Other Airlines Suspend Flights

All the scheduled flights by Etihad Airways that were to depart from the Zayed International Airport have been suspended until 2 PM UAE time of Sunday, March 1st. Air Arabia has also suspended flights to and from UAE due to the regional airspace closures. Emirates has also temporarily suspended its flights to and from Dubai. So, the passengers have been asked to check for travel updates and flight status before they leave for the airport.

6. The Indian Embassy In Oman Issues Advisory

The Indian embassy, which is located in Muscat, has issued an advisory for Indian expats. They have been asked to remain vigilant and to take due care. Not to mention, it has also asked the expats to follow all the safety guidelines and advisories that are issued by the Omani authorities and the Indian Embassy.

7. BAPS Hindu Mandir In Abu Dhabi Closed

Due to the current emergency situation, BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi has been closed. This has been done as a precautionary measure as the safety and well-being of the people remain a high priority.

8. Saudia Confirms Cancellations Of Several Flights

Saudia, which is the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, has confirmed that it is cancelling flights to and from Amman, Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Moscow, Peshawar, Doha, and Bahrain. These cancellations are in effect until March 2 at 11:59 PM. So, guests who have been affected are being notified directly, and they have been advised to check the flight status before they head towards the airport.

9. Bahrain Announces Remote Learning For All Education Institutions

As revealed by the Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry of Education has announced remote learning from March 1st onwards until further notice. This is for the safety of students and is being done as a temporary precautionary measure. The Civil Service Bureau has also announced that remote work will be activated at the rate of 70% across the ministries and government.
