The Ministry of Interior in Kuwait has set a limit on the maximum number of vehicles that expatriates are permitted to own. Yes, as mentioned in a report of the Gulf News, it has clarified that expats are permitted to own a maximum of three vehicles for personal use. Here’s all you need to know about this development.

Kuwait Sets Vehicle Cap For Expats

As revealed by Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Bouhassan, who is the Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, expats can own a maximum of up to three vehicles for personal use. Yes, this limit applies to all types of personal vehicles, and this includes pick-up trucks, cars and motorcycles. Additionally, he mentions how expats can continue to renew the registration of the vehicles they already own. However, this does not mean that the vehicle cap of three can be exceeded. But, it must be noted that registering additional vehicles beyond the set limit is not permissible.

Rising Expat Population

At this point, it’s worth noting that the expat population has been increasing in Kuwait. Yes, the overall population rose by 5% in 2025, reaching 5.23 million. As it happens, the non-Kuwaiti population grew by 7.4%. They added 2,54,580 residents, reaching 3.67 million, which is an uptick from the figures of 2024. Moreover, the largest expat community happens to be from India, and this is seeing a rise by 5.08%. This was revealed in a report of Times Kuwait, which mentioned that the Egyptian community ranked at second and Bangladeshi nationals ranked third.
