During the month of Ramadan, many people travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah. And so, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has rolled out a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure the safety, security, and smooth movement of Umrah performers. Yes, for Ramadan 1447AH, the numbers are expected to surge further at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, especially during the last 10 days. So, several guidelines have been rolled out to ensure everyone can offer their prayers in a smooth and seamless manner.

As revealed in a report of the Gulf News, these measures are a part of an operational plan. The plan is to regulate crowds and to ensure that there is enhanced emergency readiness. The comprehensive guidelines have been rolled out to ensure that Umrah pilgrims can perform rituals in a calm and organised environment. The mosque entrances now feature digital indicators. This guides visitors to available prayer areas. So, if it’s green, it means it’s open for access and red means full capacity. Visitors are encouraged to use public transport, such as taxis, buses, and the Haramain high-speed railway. Dedicated shuttle and parking areas are provided on the city outskirts.

Signages To Avoid Gatherings, Several Highlights For Pilgrims

Since millions of worshippers are expected to attend the grand mosque, especially during the last 10 nights, authorities want to ensure that there is no heavy congestion before and after prayer times. This is especially in the central area around the Grand Mosque. So, the pilgrims have been urged to ensure that they follow the security personnel’s instructions. They must also follow signage and designated pedestrian routes and must maintain a calm and respectful flow of movement.

To ensure there is safety in the central zone, motorcycles, bicycles, and unauthorised vehicles are banned from the central pedestrian area. Additionally, pilgrims must also avoid gathering at entrances, corridors and emergency exits. They must leave promptly after they complete the prayer to allow smooth movement for others.

Designated Areas For Elderly worshippers

There are designated areas for elderly worshippers and People of Determination. With priority pathways and electric carts for ease in movement and Tawaf. Authorities are also urging pilgrims to stay hydrated and take adequate rest. Moreover, they’ve been advised to avoid heat exposure and seek medical attention. Additionally, the pilgrims must also safeguard their personal belongings. They must obtain official Umrah permits digitally, and they must comply with scheduling systems to reduce congestion.
