Roshanara Club

Being the capital city of the country, Delhi is home to several elite clubs. One of them was the Roshanara Club which was established in 1922. However, this oldest and iconic club was sealed by the DDA (Delhi Development Authority) and here’s why this step was taken.

On Friday, the Roshanara Club in Shakti Nagar, north Delhi, was declared in possession by DDA officials who also sealed it. The sealing allegedly took place despite a high court order for a stay until October 6. According to General Secretary Rajan Manchanda, the club’s lease is for 90 years.

According to him, their two leases—one from 1922 and the other from 1928—were typically renewed every 30 years. In 2012, when their initial lease expired, they spoke with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and asked them to extend the lease’s term. As a result, they were granted a six-month extension. Another lease came to an end in 2018, and the MoHUA wrote to them to inform us that the government will implement a policy to treat them fairly.

He added that the club had received a notice to quit it from the DDA over six months prior.

Lower Court To Make The Final Decision

After contacting the high court, they were given the assurance that the lower court would make the final decision. However, the lower court rejected their application. He believes the High Court has granted them a stay until October 6. But, DDA representatives suddenly arrived here at 5:30 am today to seize control and shut the club.

The Hindustan Times reported that a top DDA officer responded when contacted that sealing had been done legally. Under the condition of anonymity, he stated that there is no illegality in it, and the matter is in the cognisance of the court.

Roshanara Club, which is situated in the centre of North Delhi and has become one of the most prominent clubs in the nation, is gifted with natural beauty, lush pastures, and fresh breezes. The Nishat and Dilshad Gardens, which are located in the Roshanara Gardens, which encircle the club, are examples of Mughal architecture.
