A farmer at Madhya Pradesh dug out his own fortune from the 10×10 patch of land he had taken on lease for ₹200 a month ago. Lakhan Yadav, while digging a part of the land, took out some mud, stones and pebbles. One of the pebbles looked different to him and therefore he rubbed off the dust covering it. To his surprise, it started sparkling. He realised that he had dug out a piece of diamond. Upon confirming with the district diamond officer, his assumption turned out to be true. It was a 14.98-carat diamond worth ₹6 lakhs. Within a few minutes, the diamond turned the life of Yadav from a struggling farmer to a millionaire. Meanwhile, a UP jeweller has set a world record by creating a ring with 12,638 diamonds.

Digging Out The Luck, Literally
Madhya Pradesh’s Lakhan Yadav was one of those expelled from the Panna National Park after the removal of the villages. With the compensation money, he had bought 2 hectares of land and that land turned out to be a lucky charm for him. In a portion of the land leased for ₹200, Yadav found a 14.98-carat diamond that was sold for ₹60.6 lakhs in an auction. Speaking to TOI, Yadav has said, “It has changed my life.” He added, “I will not go for anything big. I am not an educated person and I’ll put the money in a fixed deposit to ensure my four kids get good education”. He has also bought a motorcycle with the first ₹1 lakh he received after the deposition of the diamond with the district administration.
