In light of the Muharram processions, traffic advisories have been issued across various cities to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety. With advisories issued by local authorities, commuters are urged to stay informed and plan their travel routes accordingly. From the bustling streets of Delhi to the vibrant neighbourhoods of Mumbai, each city is set to witness a unique tapestry of cultural expressions. Here’s everything you need to know about the traffic diversions and essential updates to ensure a smooth journey during this important occasion.

Delhi

The Delhi Traffic Police have released a comprehensive advisory for the Muharram processions scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. According to the Economic Times, significant traffic disruptions are expected, especially for bus services which will be terminated or diverted based on the processions’ movements. Smaller processions will also occur on the nights of July 16th and 17th.

Key Routes and Diversions:

  • Tughlaq Road and Surrounding Areas: Buses will take a different route from the South End to Aurobindo Chowk, going through Max Mueller Marg, Lodhi Road, Bhishma Pitamah Marg, and then continuing southward.
  • Impacted Roads: Mathura Road, Maa Anandmai Marg, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Road No. 56, Road No. 66, Pankha Road, Palam Dabri Road, Zakhira Flyover to Inderlok Metro Station, and Najafgarh Road.
  • New Delhi Railway Station Access: Travellers should avoid Connaught Place and use routes leading to the Ajmeri Gate side via Tilak Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, or through Rajghat and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg.
  • Traffic Management: Roads like Jama Masjid Road, Ajmeri Gate Road, Asaf Ali Road, Basant Road, and others will have regulated traffic from 12 pm to 9:30 pm.

Mumbai

The Mumbai Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory for Taziya processions on July 17, affecting areas such as Dharavi.

Key Routes and Diversions:

  • Sion Mahim Link Road: Closed from S.L. Raheja Route Junction to T-Junction.
  • Alternate Routes:
    • From S.L. Raheja Hospital to T-Junction: Divert through Senapati Bapat Marg, Mahim Phatak, Mori Road, Mahim Junction, and Gen. Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg.
    • From S.L. Raheja Hospital to Sion Hospital: Divert through Senapati Bapat Marg, Mahim Phatak, Mori Road, Mahim Junction, L.J. Road, Shobha Hotel, and T.H. Kataria Marg.
  • St. Kabir Marg (60 ft road): Closed from Kemkar Junction to Kumbharwada Junction.
  • K.K. Krishnan Menan Marg (90 ft road): Ashok Mill Naka to Kumbharwada Junction is closed to traffic.

Ahmedabad

The Ahmedabad Police have issued a traffic advisory for Tazia processions on July 17, with several road closures from 2 pm to 12 am.

Key Routes and Closures:

  • Traditional Route: From Bhadra Plaza Marg to Bhadrakali temple, Telegraph Office to Old Advance Cinema.
  • Road Closures: Delhi Chakla to Mirzapur, Shahpur Darwaza to Mirzapur Chowk, Revadi Bazar to Relief Road, Jamalpur Darwaza to Khamasa Char Rasta, and many more.

Hyderabad

The Hyderabad police have issued a traffic advisory for the Bibi-Ka-Alam procession on July 17, with restrictions and diversions from 12 pm to 10 pm.

Key Diversions:

  • Bibi-ka-Alawa: Cars diverted at Sunargalli ‘T’ Junction towards Dabeerpura Darwaza and Ganga Nagar Nala, Yakutpura side.
  • Shaik Faiz Kaman: Vehicles diverted at Jabbar Hotel towards Dabeerpura Darwaza or Chanchalguda.

Bengaluru

A traffic advisory has been issued for areas along Hosur Lashker Road on July 17, affecting routes from Johnson Market to Elgin Apartments.

Key Diversions:

  • Vehicles from Brigade Road: Divert through Richmond Road, Rhenius Cross, and Nanjappa Circle.
  • Vehicles from Hosur Road: Take Cemetery Cross Road, Berlie Street, and Longford Road to reach Nanjappa Circle.
  • Heavy Goods Vehicles: Use Adugodi Junction, MICO Junction, 8th Main Wilson Garden Main Road, and Siddaiah Road.

Pune

The Pune City Traffic Police have implemented road closures and traffic diversions for the Muharram processions in various parts of the city.

Key Processions:

  • Main Procession: From Shreenath Talkies through Datta Mandir Chowk, Belbag Chowk, Hutatma Chowk, and ending at Sangam Ghat.
  • Camp Procession: From Taboot Street through Batliwala Bagicha, Sarbatwala Chowk, Babajan Dargah, and other key points.
  • Khadki Procession: From Bopodi Road to the Old Pune Mumbai Highway.
  • Patil Estate Procession: Via Silk Board to Sangam Ghat.
  • Imamwada Procession: Via Aga Khan Compound and Rahim Petrol Pump.

Commuters are advised to avoid these routes during procession hours.
