In an unfortunate incident, it was recently reported that as many as 41 trees were found to be either poisoned or cut down. A First Information Report or FIR has been filed and the police are currently investigating this matter further. So far, not much is known about the motive behind doing such a heinous act or the people who are responsible for it. This incident happened near the Eastern Express Highway.
41 Trees Found Cut Or Poisoned Along Eastern Express Highway
According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, an FIR has been lodged with the Pant Nagar Police Station. Around 41 trees were either cut down or poisoned along the Eastern Express Highway or EEH in Ghatkopar East.
This sad fact came to light when the garden department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC was doing their routine checks. They saw that a number of trees on the divider of the Andheri-Jogeshwari Link Road had been chopped down. Around 22 foxtail palm trees along EEH to Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar were also cut down.
In addition to this, many trees near Naidu Colony were poisoned. Holes were drilled into the trees and chemicals were poured into them. This eventually killed them all. The police are trying to look for the culprits via CCTV footage.
Other Important Details To Know About This Particular News
As of now, it is not known who is responsible for these heinous acts. The FIR has been registered by Krishna Lambe who works in the BMC’s garden department. As per the HT article, it is speculated that this might have been done to steal wood.
Usually, such an act is done by builders to trees that are on the land they want to build on. However, these trees were on dividers in the middle of a road so the motive is still unclear. It is hoped that the police catches the miscreants responsible for it soon.
