According to the latest updates, the work on India’s first bullet train is nearing completion. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has updated that more than 290 km of track, out of the total 508 km, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train is completed. The authorities have also successfully built bridges over 8 rivers and completed construction of 12 stations.

This is amazing progress, especially keeping in mind the challenges they faced initially. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train was given an official go-ahead in 2017. It took two years for the officials to finalise the design of the trains. Furthermore, seeing the high speed of the train, there were various challenges like vibrations of the tracks, and the logistics of power supply, speed, and aerodynamics. Thankfully, they have been able to overcome it all and are on track for the timely completion of this project.

Ashwini Vaishnaw mentioned that the project is advancing at a rapid pace. The work is underway at two depots of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train and the first section of this line will open by 2026. Subsequently, the railways will open the other sections of this bullet train in phases.

The first stretch of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train will have a 21-kilometre tunnel, with a 7-kilometre stretch passing beneath the sea. The depth of this tunnel is about 56 metres and bullet trains are expected to operate at speeds ranging between 300 and 320 kmph within this tunnel.

This rapid progress shows the massive growth of the Indian railway infrastructure over the years. We, for one, can’t wait to travel on these bullet trains!
