Mount Mary Fair Fest in Bandra (W) is scheduled to start in the second week of September. In order to facilitate the devotees on the transport front, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) intends to operate 121 more buses in Mumbai’s Bandra area. These buses will run from Bandra Railway Station (W) to Hill Road Udyan daily till September 15, 2024.
BEST Rolls Out 121 Additional Buses In Mumbai
The Mount Mary Fair held at Bandra sees thousands of devotees visiting the fair annually. Some of them go to the Bandra Station (W), and they travel by local trains to get there. After this, they have to board the BEST buses to reach the fairground. But even buses cannot drop passengers near Mount Mary Church because of narrow roads and large crowds of pedestrians. In this regard, BEST will arrange an additional two buses between Bandra Station (W) and Hill Road Park, which is a desirable booth for passengers to alight.
Besides this, BEST plans to put into service additional buses on different routes in order to cope with the rush. Some of the routes include C-71, A202, 321, A375, 422, 473, and C-505. These routes include some of the most significant areas within the city so that the devotees from these areas can easily access Bandra.

Crowd Control During The Fair
This is the area close to Bandra Station (W) and the church, and it will be congested, especially during the Mount Mary Fair. Thus, in order to control the crowding and the smooth running of the buses, BEST has employed bus inspectors as well as traffic police. These officials will help the passengers and guide them through the events of the fair.
Commuters have been advised to fully utilise these additional bus services during the fair by BEST. Based on this reasoning, the administration’s main objective is to guarantee that the participants and the onlookers find reliable means of transport during the festival period.
The Mount Mary Fair is celebrated in September every year and is one of the most revered religious and cultural festivals in Mumbai. It gets patronised not only by people living in Mumbai but also by those from other regions of Maharashtra. The additional or supplementary bus services run by BEST to cope with the demand of the public form an important tool in regulating the flow of people and ensuring order and fluidity of the traffic in a densely crowded area of Bandra.
The decision of BEST to increase the number of buses is consistent with its vision to respond to the needs of Mumbaikars during events. These proposed extra buses will help reduce overcrowding on local trains with the hope of avoiding crowding at the railway station.
