Good news, folks! The first concrete base slab of Mumbai’s underground bullet train station was cast in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) recently. The slab was cast 32 metres deep in the ground, which is equal to a 10-storey building! This was the first of 69 slabs that will be cast for the upcoming BKC station in Mumbai. In a major milestone for India’s first bullet train, the first concrete base slab of the only underground metro station of the project was cast at BKC in Mumbai. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the remarkable progress of the Mumbai Underground Bullet Train Station.

According to The Financial Express, the base slab was cast 32 metres below ground level and measures about 3.5 meters in height, 30 meters in length, and 20 meters in thickness. This underground station is being constructed using the innovative bottom-up method and is being called a marvel of engineering by experts. NHSRCL shared videos of the ongoing construction work on this station to showcase the progress of this project.

All About The Only Underground Station On Mumbai-Ahmedabad Corridor

Mumbai Underground Bullet Train Station at BKC will have three floors and six platforms. The three floors will include a platform, concourse, and service areas. The platform will be situated 24 metres below ground. According to The Financial Express, the platforms will be 415 metres long, each, and will easily accommodate the 16-coach bullet trains. Furthermore, for seamless connectivity, two entry/exit points will be constructed to connect the underground station to the nearby metro line 2B station and the MTNL building. They will construct a 21-kilometre-long tunnel from Mumbai to Shilphata as part of this project.

As per NHSRCL’s latest update, about 18.7 lakh cubic meters of earth will need to be excavated for the construction of other stations on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor. Of this, 52% of the excavation has already been completed. The overall cost of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor project is around ₹1.08 lakh crore. It will have 12 stations on the 508-kilometre-long route.
