A devastating fire broke out in Marol, Andheri, in the early hours of March 9, 2025, causing panic among residents and commuters. The incident, which occurred near the Sher-E-Punjab society in Andheri East, was triggered by a major gas leak in a Mahanagar Gas Limited supply pipeline. The gas leak, originating from a pipeline running through the middle of the road near a gurdwara at Takshila, resulted in a sudden and intense blaze, charring three vehicles and injuring three individuals.

The fire was first reported around 12:35 AM when a gas leak ignited near passing vehicles, engulfing them in flames. Among the affected vehicles were a car, an auto-rickshaw, and a motorcycle. The fire department swiftly responded, dispatching a fire engine and a water tanker to the scene. Despite the ferocity of the fire, firefighters managed to contain and fully extinguish it by 1:34 AM, preventing further escalation.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion-like sound before the fire erupted, leading to panic in the vicinity. Several residents rushed out of their homes, fearing further leaks or potential building damage. Authorities immediately cordoned off the area, ensuring that no further casualties or damages occurred.

Casualties Due To The Fire

Three individuals suffered severe burn injuries due to the incident. Arvindkumar Kaithal (21) suffered burns on 30% to 40% of his body. Aman Harishankar Saroj (22) sustained burns covering 40% to 50% of his body. Suresh Kailas Gupta (52) experienced burns on approximately 20% of his body, primarily below the waist.

All three victims were rushed to the Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Centre in Jogeshwari, where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is currently stable, but they remain under medical observation. In addition to the human casualties, the fire completely destroyed three vehicles.

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the pipeline leak, with initial reports suggesting possible wear and tear or damage caused by ongoing roadwork in the area.

In response to the incident, local authorities have urged residents and businesses in the vicinity to remain cautious and report any suspected gas leaks immediately. Mahanagar Gas Limited has deployed a technical team to assess the damage and ensure that no further risks remain. Officials have also assured that regular inspections and maintenance of gas pipelines will be strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
