Local trains are the lifeline of the city of dreams, Mumbai. Every Mumbaikar has a love-hate relationship with this mode of transport in the city. The trains are always overcrowded, especially during peak hours, making it super difficult to get into. This leads to many unfortunate accidents in which many people lose their lives. Looking at this, six more 12-car services will now be converted into 15-car services.

Mumbai Local Trains Increase Coaches

On Friday, Western Railways announced the addition of extra coaches in order to prevent overcrowding. It mentioned that, starting March 27, six 12-car services will be converted into 15-car services. This will help increase each train’s passenger capacity by 25 percent.

This move will also prevent overcrowding and reduce the number of people falling from local trains during rush hours. Sumit Thakur, WR’s chief spokesperson, said that this is an initiative to provide better train services to passengers and accommodate more commuters easily.

This conversion of trains into 15-car services will be done on both sides, three each. While four of them will be slow trains, the remaining two will be fast trains.
