The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Mumbai, according to a statement made on Monday, have increased patrols in women’s compartments on local trains and have started a safety awareness drive. The sexual assault of a 20-year-old college student aboard a moving suburban train in the early hours of June 14 prompted the awareness campaign’s debut last week. Here are the details of what the authorities are planning to do.

A terrible incident involving a 40-year-old man molesting a 20-year-old girl on a Mumbai local train occurred a few days earlier. Between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Masjid stations, Nawazu Karim entered the women’s coach of the Mumbai Local and sexually assaulted the young woman.

He was detained following the event, and a horrifying video of the same suspect had surfaced. People were exerting pressure on the railway administration as a result of witnessing this film. It was also questioned as to why, given that everything was captured on CCTV, no action was done simultaneously.

According to the DCP of GRP Western Railways, a campaign to raise awareness for female commuters has begun. Women are being informed about safety precautions to take while travelling and emergency contact information.

According to an official, the victim was on her route to Belapur in Navi Mumbai, where she was scheduled to sit for an exam. She had boarded the Harbour Line local train at CSMT, and the official claimed that as soon as it started moving, a man entered the unoccupied ladies’ compartment.

Around 7:26 am, he allegedly sexually assaulted the woman between CSMT and Masjid stations. When the woman raised an alarm and fled, he descended at the Masjid station. According to the officer, the woman went to GRP and complained, and as a result, an FIR was filed against an unnamed person.

Teams of officers from the Mumbai Police, Crime Branch, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and GRP began looking for the suspect. CCTV recordings from inside and outside the Masjid station were reviewed by police.
