Somebody on X (formerly known as Twitter), shared a video of a man claiming that he was denied entry because of his traditional Tamil outfit. In the video, he was seen sporting a crisp white veshti and shirt. In the course of the video, he explained that these items of clothing are from a “high-grade brand” called Ramraj Cotton.
He explained that he was quite eager to eat at the restaurant because he is a huge Virat Kohli fan. The man travelled all the way from Tamil Nadu, checked into JW Marriott Juhu, and headed to One8 Commune. He knew that the restaurant was owned by the famous cricketer. However, he said that the staff denied him entry because they claimed that his outfit was not in line with their dress code.
This, claimed the man, not only disappointed him but also hurt him. He said that he would’ve understood if he was wearing shorts or a colourful lungi. However, being disallowed from a restaurant just because he was wearing a veshti seemed to him as an insult to his culture. He further stated that he doubted if Virat Kohli would take action against them and so he returned to his hotel hungry and disheartened.
Here’s How Netizens Reacted To His Video
its nothing against your culture..they have denied me entry in shorts and slippers because its their dress code which has to be followed to enter..whether to have a code or not can be a topic of debate..but dont make it a topic of ‘being against culture’

Many people reacted to the video saying that it wasn’t about disrespecting Tamil culture. It was simply that their policy was very strict when it came to allowing entry to single males. Some even highlighted that tagging Virat Kohli is futile as he isn’t directly responsible for it, the management of the restaurant is.
It’s nothing to do with disrespect or anything. one 8 is not just restaurant they have strict rules for single male.
Particularly those wearing dress showing tights are not allowed.— Piraveen Venkat 🇮🇳 (@k_piraveen) December 2, 2023
Why should restaurants have the dress code ? In the hospitality industry, the customer is king, and the guest is always right. As long as it is not obscene, it should be allowed. Dress code is an elite concept that should be discouraged.

Some even questioned the entire purpose of setting dress codes in restaurants. They said that the concept was elitist and that it shouldn’t be a thing. According to one commenter, such dress codes placed more emphasis on the clothes than on the individuals themselves which seemed unethical. Yet another commenter questioned why women were allowed in shorts but not men.
Virat is not responsible for what happened, the staff present there at that time is responsible. This problem could have been solved by informing the manager there but then how do you get reach on social media.🏃

@imVkohli – This is really bad, disrespecting Tamilnadu traditional attire.
