Mumbai Metro Unveils First Look Of Dharavi Station On Aqua Line 3

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has officially unveiled the first look of the Dharavi Metro Station, a vital stop on the highly anticipated Aqua Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor). This brand-new station, situated along the banks of the Mithi River, promises to redefine connectivity and alleviate commuting woes in one of the city’s busiest and most densely populated neighbourhoods.

Dharavi Metro Station Built Using Eco-Friendly Engineering

What makes the Dharavi Metro Station stand out isn’t just its location—it’s also the way engineers built it. They used the “cut-and-cover” method, a popular engineering approach where they dig a trench, build the structure within it, and then cover it up. This method helps reduce noise, environmental disruption, and land displacement in high-density urban areas like Dharavi.

Given its proximity to the Mithi River, the station’s design and construction also had to factor in flood resilience and structural stability. Engineers from MMRCL have reportedly addressed these issues by introducing modern water-resistant materials and foundation technology.

A Game-Changer For Commuters And Locals Alike

Once operational, the Dharavi Metro Station will play a pivotal role in easing traffic congestion. It will also improve access to major hubs such as Bandra, SEEPZ, and Colaba. For residents of Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest informal settlements, the station will bring unprecedented convenience. It will help in cutting travel time, improving mobility, and opening doors to economic opportunities across the city.
