The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has officially unveiled the first look of the Dharavi Metro Station, a vital stop on the highly anticipated Aqua Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor). This brand-new station, situated along the banks of the Mithi River, promises to redefine connectivity and alleviate commuting woes in one of the city’s busiest and most densely populated neighbourhoods.

Given its proximity to the Mithi River, the station’s design and construction also had to factor in flood resilience and structural stability. Engineers from MMRCL have reportedly addressed these issues by introducing modern water-resistant materials and foundation technology.
A Game-Changer For Commuters And Locals Alike
Once operational, the Dharavi Metro Station will play a pivotal role in easing traffic congestion. It will also improve access to major hubs such as Bandra, SEEPZ, and Colaba. For residents of Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest informal settlements, the station will bring unprecedented convenience. It will help in cutting travel time, improving mobility, and opening doors to economic opportunities across the city.
It will also serve as a crucial interchange for locals who previously relied on overcrowded buses and auto-rickshaws, significantly upgrading the daily commute experience.
Part Of Mumbai’s Expansive Metro Vision
The Aqua Line 3 is a 33.5-kilometre fully underground metro line. It aims at bridging north-south connectivity through the heart of Mumbai. Stations like Dharavi will play a key role in helping the line carry over 17 lakh commuters daily once it’s fully operational.
The Dharavi Metro Station is not just a stop along the way—it’s a symbol of progress for one of the city’s most iconic areas. As Mumbai continues to expand its metro network, this station marks a significant milestone in achieving inclusive, sustainable urban mobility.
