In a bid to boost marine tourism in Maharashtra, Mumbai Port Authority has decided to make the newly-inaugurated International Cruise Terminal Station in the city a hub of ‘cruise connectivity’. The authorities plan to launch direct cruise services from Mumbai to Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and here’s all you need to know about it.

Direct Cruise Services To Lakshadweep And Andaman From Mumbai

The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal is the largest terminal in India and was recently inaugurated. Now, the authorities are planning to expand marine tourism in the state by launching direct cruise services from the terminal in Mumbai to islands like Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar.

According to a report by Sakal, the Mumbai Port Authority has finalised these plans. They aim to start these direct cruise services soon. This is a major step in the cruise network of Mumbai that has been limited to destinations like Goa, Kochi, and Sri Lanka.

Boost Marine Tourism In Maharashtra

These direct cruise services are a major step by the Mumbai Port Authority to boost marine tourism in the state. Some reports suggest that the state government is also developing infrastructure and rapidly expanding sea routes around Maharashtra as part of this expansion. The aim is to show tourists the scenic landscape of the state, the stunning natural beauty and beaches, and also make them experience the culture.

Located at Ballard Pier, the ₹556-crore Mumbai International Cruise Terminal was officially inaugurated on April 21. The terminal is being viewed as a landmark development that will boost India’s maritime tourism. It will also strengthen Mumbai’s position as a global cruise hub. The terminal spans 4.15 lakh square feet. It can handle one million passengers annually and has a daily capacity of 10,000 travellers. It is designed to host 5 cruise ships simultaneously, each up to 300 metres in length with an 11-metre draught.
