Mumbai Museums Receive Bomb Threat

According to an article by Mint, the threatening emails were addressed to major museums, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Colaba and the Nehru Science Centre in Worli. The museum’s management received an email in the early hours of Friday, following which police were notified. According to the email, bombs were planted at more than eight different locations in Mumbai, including the museum, the scientific centre, and the Byculla Zoo. Separate emails were also sent to these entities.

Following that, security at critical municipal installations was ramped up, with bomb detection and disposal teams and other people, including those from anti-terror groups, searching the museum but finding nothing unusual. This topic is currently being investigated. More information is awaited.

This occurred one week after Mumbai Police received a phone threat at approximately 6 p.m. on December 30, indicating that the city will experience several explosions before New Year’s 2024. Nothing unusual turned up during the probe.

Kolkata Museum Also Received A Similar Threat

The famous Indian Museum in Kolkata also received an email on Friday from someone who said bombs had been hidden there. Police banned the public from entering for the day after receiving the email. Several bombs were planted within the Indian Museum, according to the threat email, and they would explode at any time.

At around 11.30 am, members of the Kolkata Police bomb squad began searching and sanitising the museum. In addition to the bomb squad, a large number of police officers, sniffer dogs and a quick response team (QRT) were stationed inside and outside the downtown Kolkata building. It was thoroughly searched the building, but no bombs were found. The police’s cyber division has also begun an investigation to find the email’s source.

The consequences of hoax bomb threats extend beyond the immediate disruption caused by evacuations and increased security measures.  Hoax bomb threats pose a significant threat to public safety, psychological well-being, and the efficient functioning of society.
