1. BMC To Install Eight Smog Towers At Shivaji Park, Dadar

According to an article recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, residents have raised concerns over the red soil in Dadar’s Shivaji Park. Allegedly, as per the residents, it is worsening the air quality. Taking cognizance of the situation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or the BMC will install eight smog towers at the periphery of Shivaji Park at Dadar. Experts from IIT Bombay and Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute or VJTI will also be consulted for removing the top layer of red soil.

2. Bombay High Court Takes Suo Moto For Deteriorating Air Quality

Recently, a Public Interest Litigation or PIL was filed seeking to learn what measures have been implemented by the Civic Gardens and Trees Department. Taking Suo Moto Cognizance of the declining quality of air in the city, the Bombay High Court stated that the BMC, Maharashtra as well as Central Pollution Control Boards and BMC should also be made party to the inquiry. Subsequently, the court has sought answers regarding the measures implemented to grapple with the situation.

3. Vande Sadharan Arrives In Mumbai

Vande Sadharan train, the new non-AC train with 22 coaches, arrived in Mumbai at the Wadi Bunder yard on October 29, Sunday. It will then undergo a series of trials on the Mumbai-Nashik Corridor, especially in the hilly areas, as per an article recently published by livemint. It will be a more affordable option for those who may not be able to afford Vande Bharat.

4. Ten More AC Locals On Mumbai’s Central Line From November 6

From November 6, the Central Railway will add ten more AC locals in place of non-AC locals on the central line of Mumbai locals. These trains will be introduced on the slow corridor and will start and end at stations like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus or CSMT, Parel, Kalyan, Ambarnath and Dombivli. According to an article recently published by TOI, the total number of AC locals now is 66.

5. No Fireworks At Cricket Matches In Mumbai Due To Air Quality

 The air quality in Mumbai has gotten worse. Hence, the Indian cricket board has announced that no fireworks or crackers will be burst at the cricket matches happening in Mumbai. Similar measures will also be taken at the matches in Delhi. This will be done to avoid exacerbating the air pollution in the city, according to an article recently published by The Indian Express. The Secretary of the board also said in a statement that the board is committed to combatting environmental concerns.
