1. MMRDA Bags ‘Excellence In Urban Transport’ For Connectivity Of Mumbai Metro

The 16th Urban Mobility India Conference in New Delhi saw the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) take home the ‘Excellence in Urban Transport’ award. Its efforts on “Multi-Modal Integration for 30 of its stations on Mumbai Metro Lines 7 and 2A” have earned them recognition.

2. Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Name Change Faces Backlash From Citizens

The idea of renaming Namma Metro has sparked an intense discussion. The Minister has stated that he plans to discuss the possibility of changing Namma Metro to “Basavanna Metro” in place of its existing name with the Chief Minister. Although the minister’s idea has garnered some support on social media, the public strongly opposes it. 

3. From Jan 2024, Purchase Pune Metro Tickets From Airport Itself

Travellers using Pune airports will find it convenient to buy Pune metro tickets right at the airport beginning in January of next year. Bus services between the airport and the Ramwadi metro station have been arranged by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML). Travellers can take a feeder bus from the airport to the Ramwadi metro station.

4. Operations On Bhubaneswar Metro To Start In The Next 4 Years

The first phase of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project will begin operations in four years, with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik scheduled to lay the project’s foundation stone on January 1. The state government has authorised the project’s DPR, which comes with a `5,929 crore price tag. April 2023 saw the announcement of the project. 

5. Two Corridors Of Delhi Metro Phase IV Are On Advanced Approval Stage

The Phase-IV project of the Delhi Metro has two of its three remaining corridors in advanced stages of approval. In December 2018, the Delhi government approved six metro lines totaling 103.9 kilometres as part of the Phase IV expansion.

6.  Metro Services In Hyderabad To Be Extended Soon

According to BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday, metro services in Hyderabad will be expanded from Nagole to LB Nagar, Pedda Amberpet, and LB Nagar to Shamshabad. LB Nagar Constituency booth committee meeting minutes from KTR revealed that actor Rajinikanth was impressed with Hyderabad’s growth during his recent visit.

7. Chennai Metro Working On Installation Of Ballast Track For The First Time

At a cost of ₹61,843 crore, Chennai Metro Rail has started constructing a ballasted test track in Poonamallee depot as part of the phase II project. For the first time, ballast track—which is composed of tiny crushed stones placed in between rails—has been installed in the Chennai Metro Rail system.
