Fancy Cookies Who? Shankar Mahadevan Reminds Us Why Parle-G, The OG Biscuit, Ruled Our Childhood

The food industry has evolved a lot, but no new flavours or fancy snacks can beat the nostalgic joy of old-school chocolates and biscuits. And it looks like legendary singer Shankar Mahadevan agrees with us! He recently took to his social media to share that no fancy cookie can compare to the OG Parle-G. Scroll down to see what he said about it.

Shankar Mahadevan Praises Parle-G

Singer Shankar Mahadevan recently took to his social media handle to shower some love on our all-time favourite biscuit, Parle-G. The Instagram video begins with him saying, “Chocolate Chip Cookie, Double Chocolate Chip Cookie, Oat Raisin Cookie, Apple Crumble Cookie, Brown Butter Bookie — woh sab jitna chahe khao yaar, lekin yeh jo hai na apna Parle-G, duniya mein kidhar nahi milega” (eat all those cookies as much as you want, but our Parle-G, you won’t find anything like it anywhere in the world.)

How This Humble Biscuit Became India’s Favourite

Parle-G has been around since 1939, and that’s exactly why it feels so rooted in our childhood. The first-ever biscuit, “Parle Gluco”, was baked in a factory in Mumbai’s Vile Parle, where the brand actually gets its name from. And what surprises us the most is that even after all these decades, its taste has stayed comfortingly the same.

What began as an affordable, homegrown biscuit slowly became a nationwide staple. In the 1980s, the biscuit was officially renamed “Parle-G,” with the “G” originally standing for glucose and later also coming to represent “Genius.” Through all the fancy biscuits that came and went, Parle-G held its ground with consistency, simplicity and nostalgia. And when it comes to enjoying these biscuits with a hot cup of tea—that’s pure bliss. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a busy day!
