When Kamiya Jani dropped by Gaurav Gera’s Oshiwara home for a Sunday Brunch, the table was loaded with comfort before the cameras had even settled. There was Punjabi kadhi, proper ghar-ki aloo gobi, doodh soda that instantly felt nostalgic, and chai adding its own warmth to the spread. It looked less like a celebrity shoot and more like the kind of lunch where conversations stretch longer than planned. And that is exactly what happened! 

Gaurav Gera Opens Up About Privacy And Relationships

Somewhere between bites, Kamiya Jani brought up something people have wondered about for years: how does Gaurav Gera remain so private? In an age where public figures announce relationships, heartbreaks, vacations, skincare routines and sometimes even breakfast moods, he has managed to reveal almost nothing. Kamiya jokingly pointed out that people do not even know whether he is married or in a relationship.

Gaurav did not dramatise the answer. He simply said he has always been like that. Privacy, for him, is not a strategy or image-building exercise. It is instinct. He values it, protects it, and sees no reason why strangers should know the status of his personal relationships. 

Then the conversation took a more personal turn. He shared that there was a time in his life when he had come close to getting married, but it did not work out. Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief, then asked the natural follow-up: after that, did he consciously distance himself from relationships? His answer was unexpectedly sharp in its self-awareness.

Gaurav Gera’s Honest Take On Marriage And Solitude

He said the issue is not with other people, but with him. In his own words, he can be difficult to deal with and difficult to live with. He struggles with adjusting to another person’s moods and feelings. If someone wants to watch a film and he is not in the mood, he cannot pretend enthusiasm for the sake of harmony. He likes living according to how he feels in the moment, and he knows that can be hard for a partner.

That kind of honesty is rare because it is unflattering.

He also spoke about living alone for years, through struggle, survival and building a life inside that same home. Solitude stopped feeling empty long ago. It became familiar, functional, and even comforting for him. 

By the end, the food still looked delicious. But the real takeaway was simpler; sometimes choosing your own company is not sadness, avoidance or failure. Sometimes it is just knowing yourself too well to fake anything else.
