It’s good news for people in Navi Mumbai, as travelling is all set to become easier for them. 15 years after the City and Industrial Development Corporation first proposed a metro network for Navi Mumbai, the state government has finally cleared the second corridor of the project. Read on to know more about the development.

Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 Gets State’s Approval

As per a report by The Indian Express, the 8.15-km Navi Mumbai metro line 2, which will run between Taloja and Khandeshwar, received a final green flag in the Maharashtra budget with an allocation of ₹5,575 crore. The new Navi Mumbai line is expected to improve connectivity across areas like Kamothe, Kalamboli, and Taloja, and it will link Navi Mumbai International Airport as well.

The planning of the second metro for the Navi Mumbai corridor aims to enhance the internal connectivity of key residential and industrial areas. The project was originally estimated at ₹1,605 crore in 2011, but after almost 15 years, the finalised cost is estimated to be ₹5,575 crore.

Stations Planned For The Upcoming Metro

Here are all eight stations and areas that are planned for the second corridor of the Navi Mumbai Metro –

  • Khandeshwar
  • Sector 10, Kamothe
  • Sector 2E, Kalamboli
  • Sector 7E, Kalamboli
  • Sector 13, Kalamboli
  • Kasadi
  • MIDC Station 1
  • MIDC Station 2

The line will connect the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport to key areas such as Kamothe, Kalamboli, and Taloja, improving transport and overall mobility across the region. The new corridor will also link to the operational Belapur-Pendhar metro corridor, with about a 2.2 km gap between the two lines. However, the plan still needs state approval for integration.

As per The Indian Express, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis discussed the plan approval, stating that the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 2 project from Taloja to Khandeshwar will significantly improve the transport system to the upcoming Navi Mumbai Airport.

The upcoming second metro corridor in Navi Mumbai is expected to boost rapid infrastructure growth in the region, while making travel and connectivity easier and more accessible for daily commuters and travellers.
