Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, recently took to his official X account to announce this news. The government has approved the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina project worth ₹887 crore. The project will help transform the city of dreams into a global maritime tourism hub. It will also give a boost to coastal shipping, maritime tourism, and more.
The project is guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The waterfront will not just be open to the public but will also encourage private investments and generate new employment opportunities. According to Sarbananda Sonowal’s X post, the project will also boost the Blue Economy with a 400+ yacht capacity.

The Project Will Create Job Opportunities In Mumbai
The Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina is not just beneficial for infrastructure but also for the people. It is expected to create over 2,000 jobs for youth. According to a report by Swarajya, the project will cover nearly 12 hectares of water area. It will be implemented under a hybrid development model. The Mumbai Port Authority will invest around ₹470 crore to build the core marina, while a private operator will develop onshore facilities with an estimated investment of ₹417 crore.
Reportedly, the ministry has approved the port authority’s investment, and tenders have been floated. Bids are scheduled to close in December 2025. In conclusion, the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina will not only develop Mumbai’s waterfront and make it visually stunning but also boost tourism in the city.
