Imtiaz Ali Reveals Why Life After Marriage Becomes Truly Exciting

Generous amounts of phirni, gulab jamun and lassi were downed on a typical Punjabi Sunday Brunch episode with ace director Imtiaz Ali, actors Sharvari and Vedang Raina. Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, led an interaction with this team of Main Vaapas Aaunga. Grabbing hold of this opportunity to share a meal with Imtiaz, Kamiya asked him a question on behalf of his fans: “Why don’t his films touch upon life after marriage?” Read on to know his answer.

Imtiaz Ali Reveals If Life Post-Marriage Gets Boring

Imtiaz Ali was asked why most Bollywood films, including his, focus on a couple’s meet-cute, banter and relationship that ends up in marriage, but exclude life after marriage. “What happens to a love story after marriage? Does it become boring after marriage?” asked Kamiya Jani.

The Tamasha director instantly refuted this. He replies with a grin: “It doesn’t become boring; it becomes truly exciting after marriage.” Vedang interjected, “The drama is there.” While Imtiaz agreed that there is enough drama after marriage, he touched upon something quite poignant.

“There are many fallacies and self-impressions that one carries. Those never get challenged until you are so close to somebody. And when they get challenged, there can be discomfort in that discovery. There is no progress without discomfort, struggle and surrender.”

As if on cue, sweets were laid on the table, leaving everyone drooling. Sharvari instantly regretted wearing a corset to a Sunday Brunch as she wanted to belt the phirni. Later, they also taught the difference between Gol Gappa and Pani Puri to a very confused Vedang Raina.
