Mohan Sisters Talk Childhood Fights, Family Memories & More On Sunday Brunch With Kamiya Jani

Lunch at the Mohan household is clearly not a simple affair. In the newest episode of Sunday Brunch, Kamiya Jani, our Editor -in-Chief, lands up at the family home to spend an afternoon with the Mohan sisters, Neeti Mohan, Shakti Mohan and Mukti Mohan and their parents.

Sunday Brunch At The Mohan Household

When Kamiya asks whether they enjoy cooking, the sisters immediately burst that bubble. They say they mostly make “survival food.” So it is nothing fancy and nothing Instagrammable, but just the kind of cooking that gets dinner on the table when you’re hungry.

Naturally, that confession turns into a challenge. Kamiya asks them to prove their skills by attempting the most basic test imaginable: making a perfectly round roti. The competition quickly turns chaotic in the way sibling contests often do. Who actually wins that roti challenge? The episode leaves that surprise for viewers.

Their mother joins in when the conversation moves to childhood fights. One story feels painfully familiar to anyone with siblings: one sister had already picked a top she planned to wear that day, only to spot another sister walking around in it minutes later. Kamiya laughs and points out that sister wardrobes rarely have clear ownership rules.

A quick game of ‘Who’s Most Likely To’ adds to the teasing. Questions flew across the table; who is the biggest chhupa rustam, and who’s the first person people call when something goes wrong?

North Indian Meal With Neeti, Shakti & Mukti Mohan

Then the food arrives, and suddenly the table becomes its own conversation starter. This is not a minimalist brunch; it’s the kind that only happens when a family cooks for everyone at once. Neeti’s favourite gatte ki sabzi, made using her mother’s recipe, sits alongside rajma chawal, creamy palak paneer, aloo dum, jawahar roti, and dahi bhalla. Shakti’s preference, quinoa, sneaks into the spread as well. Dessert isn’t subtle either, with homemade North Indian-style gujiya.

By the time the full brunch is served, their father joins the table too. Looking at the spread, Kamiya notices how mixed it is; Rajasthani gatte ki sabzi, comforting rajma, and even Gujarati dhokla. The table looks like a map of different tastes.

Their mother responds in the most motherly way possible: “Sabka dhyan rakhna padta hai na.”

Somewhere in the middle of that conversation, their mother shares something that many Indian parents of daughters have heard before. People used to tell her that raising girls was a “liability,” especially when there were four of them in the house.

The sisters remember those comments clearly. Instead of shrinking because of them, they treated it like fuel. The idea was simple: if people believed daughters couldn’t build something big, they would prove the opposite. Watching them today, their mother says the pride is impossible to hide.

Just when the conversation seems to settle, the sisters flip the script. They begin interviewing Kamiya instead, asking about her career, her daughter, and the journey that led her here. Watching the host suddenly become the guest makes for the perfect end to an afternoon that feels warm and unmistakably like a real family gathering.
