The most creative mind from Gwalior took Bollywood by storm years ago. Today, he is a man who wears many hats, a theatre artist, actor, writer and amongst many others. Piyush Mishra is a force to be reckoned with. This time, he and his lovely wife, Priya, graciously invited our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, to their beautiful Versova home. What followed was a home-cooked Chettinad meal, conversations about Bollywood, and even some confessions.
Piyush Mishra Plays A Food Game With Us
Taking advantage of Piyush Mishra’s confession that his English is “kamzor” (weak), we played a fun game with him. We asked the actor to guess the names of the dishes by listening to their Michelin-style descriptions. The first option gave hints about “steamed pillows of fermented grace”, which is paired with “coconut-kissed swirl”. Married to a South Indian woman, we anticipated Piyush to instantly answer this question. And he did! It’s idlis.
Next question involved a “crispy golden pocket hiding spicy secrets”, which are paired with “spicy aloo sabzi” that will “wake up your mornings.” Piyush Mishra quickly answered that it’s Bedmi Poori and Sabzi, popularly found in Agra. Our next food clue was about soft, flattened rice tossed in turmeric. Something every Maharashtrian or Mumbaikar can easily guess! Confused, Kamiya helped him. It was poha!

The Game Continues!
Another Michelin-style description spoke about a “golden orb that resembles gulab jamun but is stuffed with rich khoya.” Piyush could visualise the answer but couldn’t get the name. It’s mawa laddoo! The last option went into the “cracked domes of roasted dough to soak up golden warmth, kiss of ghee and spices.” The Gwalior man instantly said it’s dal bafla.
Later, the actor even spoke about his new book Tumhari Aukat Kya?’ He opened up about his “besharam kitab” and its openly controversial revelations. Many wondered how he could open up without any hesitation. The actor later wondered if he was being too blatant, but his family appreciated his work and creativity.
