Mumbai’s iconic Bandra Station is celebrating its 165th year with a vibrant month-long cultural Mahotsav. The festival includes light and sound shows, art competitions, community drives, and heritage exhibitions. Open to all, the event will take place between 20 June and 27 July, and invites public participation through various creative activities.

Mumbai’s historic Bandra railway station, a Grade I heritage structure, will mark its 165th anniversary this July with a month-long “Bandra Station Mahotsav”. This cultural celebration will unfold from 20th June and will last till 27th July, offering a lively blend of heritage and community participation.

Bandra Station Mahotsav With Light And Sound Shows

The Bandra Station Mahotsav will feature spectacular light and sound shows on July 5th and 6th. During the show, the station’s Victorian-Gothic architecture will be highlighted and illuminated with bright lights. The show will also show the station’s evolution since November 1864. A concurrent photo exhibition will capture its journey as a vital suburban hub. According to Mid-Day, the programme will highlight local history and heritage.

Cultural Contests – Art, Vlog And Badge-Making

As part of the Bandra Station Mahotsav, several competitions will also be organised in the city. Participation is open across art, craft, vlog-making, and badge-design competitions. Mumbaikars are welcome to engage with the Bandra Station Mahotsav theme creatively. Entries may include drawings, digital art, clay models, or short videos. A special “Purani Yaadein” initiative also encourages sharing photographs, voice clips or memories connected to the station. These submissions will be displayed on the 13th of July and will be featured on Western Railway’s social media.

Community Pride: Clean-Up Drive And Station Upgrade

The campaign commenced with a ‘Shramdaan’ cleaning initiative on 14th June, led by Divisional Railway Manager Pankaj Singh. Volunteers helped clean and upgrade the station premises, improving hygiene and discouraging unauthorised parking. Beautification work also began on 10th June, enhancing the station’s heritage charm in preparation for the festivities.

Opened on 28th November 1864, with the current building constructed in 1888, Bandra Station remains a prized icon of Mumbai’s architectural and cultural history. As reported by Mid-Day, the Western Railway has launched similar centenary celebrations at Ratlam in October and across 15 heritage stations in Maharashtra under a national heritage initiative.

Ticket-free and open to all, the Bandra Station Mahotsav invites people to visit the cultural celebration between the 20th of June and the 27th of July.
