Hard work, blood, sweat, money, sleepless nights, stress, and a lot goes on behind starting a new business. The fear of its future, judgment from people around us, tension about investing our savings; and the list of uncertain thoughts while commencing a new startup goes on and on. Presenting and serving the best becomes the biggest priority for new cafes and restaurants.
Walking down the not-so-pleasant moments of memory lane, Chef Devika Manjrekar unveiled a negative experience of running a restaurant. Toast Pasta Bar owned by the chef is a huge name in the city today. To take it where it is today, every person associated with the place deserves credit, appreciation, and love.
Though they execute their jobs exemplary, not all customers who visit the place are well-mannered enough to treat the staff properly. Sharing a series of experiences interacting with Indian customers, she revealed: “Things I learnt after opening a restaurant in Bombay without investors as a chef AND owner.”

Talking about tons of drama and unrealistic expectations of customers, she shared that something needs to be done about customers visiting restaurants in the city. “If only restaurant staff could Google review YOU, you wouldn’t ask us to pick out chopped parsley from a bowl of fried potatoes because your kid doesn’t like the green colour.” We can only imagine how the servers and cooks feel after someone asks them to remove finely chopped leaves from a freshly cooked dish.
One of the most bizarre experiences is how some customers demanded to return their ordered dishes to remove cheese only because they forgot to mention no cheese to the waiters while ordering. The Toast Pasta Bar owner saw a customer yelling at a server at a different restaurant. The visitor not only behaved improperly but also refused to pay for the food. Instead, the person asked the server to pay from his salary.
