Need An Excuse To Eat More Kimchi? New Study Shows It May Help In Weight Loss And Improve Gut Health

The substantial advantages of kimchi, a fermented food, for gut health, weight management, and obesity prevention are highlighted in a study conducted by Sung Wook Hong at the World Institute of Kimchi, as reported by Hindustan Times. Probiotics, which support a healthy gut microbiome, are found in fermented foods including kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, yoghurt, miso, and kombucha. Fermented foods are becoming more and more popular because they may help people lose weight and enhance their gut health. The immune system, weight control, and healthy digestion all depend on a healthy gut.

Kimchi Has Potential In Weight Loss, A Study Reveals

Since obesity affects about 16% of the world’s population, the study discovered that eating kimchi every day can help obese people lose 31.8% of their body fat. This suggests that kimchi may be a food that can help fight obesity and enhance gut health.

55 overweight adults with BMIs ranging from 23 to 30 kg/m² were included in the study. Three months of taking three kimchi capsules with every meal was prescribed to one group. The study looked at how kimchi affected the composition of body fat and the gut microbiota. The findings indicated that after three months, eating kimchi every day reduced body fat mass by about 2.6%.

Although not directly engaged in the study, Dr. Hae-Choon Chang, head of the World Institute of Kimchi, said preclinical and clinical research have validated kimchi’s anti-obesity qualities, suggesting its potential as an internationally recognised health food, as reported by HT.
