Scammers in the UAE are getting clever, folks! Dubai Police have issued a fresh warning for residents to stay sharp as fraudsters roll out new tricks to get their hands on your hard-earned dirhams. The latest scam? Money mysteriously landing in your account, followed by a sob story.

New Scam Alert In The UAE! Never Transfer ‘Wrongly Sent’ Money To Strangers

Imagine you wake up, check your bank balance, and find a hefty amount sitting pretty in your account. Feels like good luck, right? But wait, it’s not! Soon after, your phone rings, and a stranger on the line says the money was “accidentally” sent to you. They claim their friend urgently needs the cash for his daughter’s medical treatment and beg you to transfer the amount to another account.

It plays on your emotions and your sympathy. But before you know it, you’ve fallen for the trap. You transfer the money, thinking you’re helping someone, only to find out days later that your bank account has been flagged for a policy violation. That so-called ‘mistake’ was a well-planned scam.

Dubai Police Say Don’t Fall For Scammers In UAE

Dubai Police shared a video advisory showing exactly how this scam unfolds. It’s a timely reminder that not all good deeds go unpunished when it comes to strangers and money. As much as we love lending a hand here in the UAE, this is one situation where you should think twice.

What You Should Do Instead

If money lands in your account from someone you don’t know, do not touch it, and definitely don’t transfer it anywhere. Call 901 immediately to report such an instance to Dubai Police. Once informed, authorities will handle the situation. So next time you feel if any scammer has contacted you, you know what to do next. 

Gone are the days of dodgy links or suspicious emails. Scammers nowadays are attacking people’s emotions. So, always verify before taking action even if you feel the need to be kind. Next time you get that surprise bank credit from an unknown resource, you know it’s time to report it to the authorities, and keep those dirhams safe!
