Yes, now motorists in the emirate will have to be extra careful while driving in the city, as the penalties for car impoundment and traffic offences have been increased. Yes, if a vehicle is impounded for serious traffic offences, the driver might have to pay up to AED20,000.
New Traffic Rules In Ras Al Khaimah
According to a recent report by The National News, it was revealed that new traffic rules will come into effect from March 1 onwards in Ras Al Khaimah. According to the new traffic rules, reckless drivers will have to pay a higher penalty of up to AED20,000, if their car is impounded for serious traffic offences. Not to mention, the number of days for which the car can be confiscated has also been increased, if the road laws are broken.
The Fines & Days Of Impoundment Varies On The Offence
It’s worth mentioning that these stringent rules are being brought into the Emirate to improve road safety and reduce the cases of dangerous driving. While drivers are fined for committing any road offence in the UAE, the charge varies depending on the severity of the fence. So, if your car is impounded in Ras Al Khaimah, here are the number of days for which this impoundment may take place and the amount that you may have to pay for its release.
- If someone is found guilty of participating in road races without a number plate or with a tampered one, then the vehicle can be impounded for 120 days with a fine of AED20,000.
- If someone is guilty of participating in road races without permission, then the vehicle can be impounded for 90 days with a penalty of AED10,000.
- If your car is found participating in an unauthorised parade, then it can be impounded for 15 to 120 days and a fine of AED10,000.
- If a person performs stunts that pose danger to people’s lives then the car can be impounded for 120 days with a fine of AED10,000.
- If a vehicle is modified to increase speed and noise levels, then the car can be impounded for 60 days with a penalty of AED5,000.
- While driving a recreational motorbike or quad bike on a paved road, these can be impounded for 90 days for a fine of AED3,000.
- If a person is found driving a vehicle that causes high levels of pollution then the car can be impounded for 30 days with a penalty of AED3,000.
The Rule Aims To Make It Safer For Drivers
Moreover, the impoundment time and the charges are also doubled, if the driver is found engaging in reckless traffic behaviour again within one year. However, it’s worth mentioning that existing traffic fines will also have to be paid on top of the new ones.
So, with new regulations in place, it is expected that roads might become safer for motorists.
