Snowfall & Coldwave To Takeover North, West & Central India In New Year
As per the latest update by IMD, starting Friday, a strong weather system is set to hit North, West, and Central India. The system will originate from a Western disturbance and will meet lower-level easterly winds over central India. According to an India Today report, this interaction will draw significant moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. This will, in turn, intensify the weather on December 27 and 28.
This interaction will cause widespread snowfall and rain across the Western Himalayan Region in the new year. Isolated rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and parts of Madhya Pradesh on December 27 and 28. Furthermore, there are also threats of thunderstorms with hailstorms in these areas along with Vidarbha and Gujarat on December 27. IMD has urged residents in these regions to prepare for possible travel disruptions and adverse weather conditions.
