For a hearty Sunday Brunch episode, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani was at the Delhi home of Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport & Highways. From talking about the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport to the future of Indian roadways, and food, we covered it all. He also shared all about his favourite dishes in Nagpur and Indore; check it out.

Nitin Gadkari Raves About Indore’s Tasty Dishes

Nitin enthusiastically talked about Nagpur’s orange delicacies. We couldn’t help but be amazed at everything we learned about real orange powder, orange soup and more. Surprised, Kamiya said, “It is amazing that you not only construct roads in India but also come up with creative ways to make barfis using Nagpuri oranges!” Hearing this, our guest had a sweet smile on his face.

Elaborating on everything Nagpur has to offer, he shared that Nagpur also serves some of the best khoya jalebis. His favourite spot to relish this dish is Ram Bhandar. He added that folks enjoy dahi kalakand and dahi jalebi from the street vendors for a sweet brekkie option.

Next, Nitin Gadkari shifted his focus to Indore and its interesting dishes. In Indore, he finds sabudana usal and poha exceptionally great. When in India’s cleanest city, you simply can’t miss out on the Indori Poha.

Whose Cooking Does He Like More, His Late Mother Or His Wife?

Kamiya gave a tough choice to Nitin when she told him to choose between his late mother’s cooking and his wife’s (Kanchan Gadkari) cooking. He was straightforward with his answer and stated that he appreciates both of them and their cooking. He also added, “Agar biwi ka acha nahi kahunga toh vivad ho jayega,” and chuckled.

He highlighted that Kanchan has a degree in MSc in Food and Nutrition. She is well-versed in this field and bonds over food. She also curates a fantastic menu at their home and instructs the chefs to prepare dishes in a certain manner. This indeed aids in flavourful meals, and sometimes even she makes dishes that are Nitin’s favourites, like thalipeeth and more.
