Due to restricted air space in several airports across North and West India recently, Indian airlines were forced to cancel hundreds of flights. Keeping in mind the circumstances, the airlines offered rescheduling and full-refund options to the customers. No Full Refund, IndiGo Charged ₹8,000 After Cancelling Flight, Claims X User
Anjush Bhatia took to social media platform X to share that IndiGo, reportedly, deducted nearly 80% of the ticket fees while offering a refund after cancelling a flight due to the tensions at the border. In the post, he accused the airline of “blatant thuggery” for charging him almost ₹8,000 as “Airline Cancellation Charges” after his Chandigarh to Mumbai flight was cancelled recently.

He claimed that most airlines are offering 100% refunds, seeing the extraordinary circumstances of the flight cancellations. Sharing a screenshot of the refund processed to his account, it showed that he only received ₹2,050 as a flight cancellation refund. In the breakdown of the refund, it showed that IndiGo charged ₹8,111 as cancellation charges and another ₹300 for the “Cancellation Service Fee”.

Airline Responds To The Claim
The man was charged roughly ₹10,000 for the flight tickets and on getting a refund of ₹2,050, he was clearly irritated. He tagged the Ministry of Civil Aviation and other concerned authorities to know if this was fair and allowed. IndiGo soon responded to the post and said that a “full refund” for the ticket had been processed from their end.
They replied and said, “Following our interaction, we’d like to reassure you that the full refund for your booking has been processed from our end. Based on the screenshot shared, it appears the information pertains to your travel agent’s platform. We kindly request you to reach out to them directly for assistance in claiming the refund. Thank you for your understanding.”
